1.0 - General Information

In 2004, the Camden Civic Centre will be launching Colossus Band Competition in Camden, a project facilitated through event management company, A Red Letter Day, who coordinated the hugely successful Clash! Macarthur Big Band Battle and Hornsby Hotshots Band Competition.

Colossus is an open-genre, youth-friendly event, encouraging an appreciation of the arts and promoting music and creativity. It gives young people an avenue to participate in a positive and enriching activity, and is enhanced by drawing on the support and involvement of family, friends and local community.

Input from a committed team of young volunteers working with event organisers has been instrumental in developing and coordinating Colossus, including the areas of sound & lighting, workshop concepts, web design and promotion.

Heat 1 will kick off on May 20 and will run over four huge weeks with the winners from each heat battling it out for the ‘Big Title’ in the Grand Final on June 12. The event will also feature weekly music workshops, providing the opportunity for budding musicians to develop new skills and work with industry professionals.

Naturally, the support from community groups and local businesses is vital in developing a solid, annual event of a professional caliber in Camden. Colossus has already secured the enthusiastic support of both the Macarthur Advertiser (ensuring weekly coverage in three papers) and the very popular C91.3, which is listened to all over Sydney. These sponsors alone boost the event into a ‘Colossus’ indeed, guaranteeing significant participation and following.

2.0 - We need Sponsors!

We are urging local businesses to demonstrate their support for this worthwhile project by taking advantage of sponsorship opportunities offered by event organisers. Not only will sponsors assist in supporting a great opportunity for local youth, but everyone can win from this event by;

- Increasing awareness of their own products & services through associated advertising and promotion in the lead up to the event, and throughout the four week program of events. Advertisements and logos associated with a successful event, pack a punch, gathered as a group in the ever popular Entertainment section!

- Association with an event that is heavily promoted through the Macarthur Advertiser as well as local radio station, C91.3.

- Websites will be widely used for Colossus promotion and updates, including the Camden Civic Centre’s Colossus page, which will include sponsor promotion. Previous competition, Clash! involved (amongst others) the local Macarthur Information Centre website, where many businesses are registered, and where many people search for general information. The site, as a direct result of interest in the local band competition, grew out of site, with a massive increase in the number of hits (precise figures available on application).
