The Camden Shonan Friendship Garden During the visit of the Japanese Delegation, May 2002, celebrations of the fifth anniversary were held to commemorate the signing of The Friendship Agreement of 1997. The Council of Camden and Camden International Friendship Association host the official delegation of eleven Shonan dignitaries led by Mayor Kiyosha Fujikawa. Among those to accompany Mayor Fujikawa will be Assembly Members, Chairman Tanaka, Council Officers Akira Asana and Takita who represent the Council of Shonan. Mayor Geoff Corrigan and Mayor Kiyosha Fujikawa together unveiled the Camden Shonan Friendship Garden at 2pm on the 10th of May, 2002. The official opening was witnessed by over 100 citizens including CIFA and SIFA members and community representatives in the presence of dignitaries of Camden and Shonan.
The Friendship Agreement In April 1997 following a number of reciprocal visits, Camden Council signed a Friendship Agreement with Shonan. Representatives of Camden Council and CIFA official delegation visited Shonan for the signing of the Agreement.
The Friendship Agreement declared the desire for friendship and mutual cooperation with each of the towns. Agreeing on mutual exchange programs in education, cultural studies and other activities of mutual benefits would be conducted between the towns. Contributing to the friendship between Japan and Australia and to the world peace resulting in prosperity and long lasting friendship for all. Delegates attending on behalf of Camden were: Mayor and lady mayoress Brooking Following the signing of the agreement Mayor Fujikawa visited Camden in August 1997 to ratify the agreement in Camden.
